Is housing first come first serve?

I was reading the deadlines on the UCI website...and they said that the housing app is due on May 1, which is just days away! I didn't turn it in yet...and I was wondering if I'm gonna get unwanted dorms because I'm turning it in last-minute.

Also...can you live there for all 4 years? Or does Irvine kick you out after the first year?

Thanks!

No, housing is not first-come, first served, at least for this first part that's due May 1. Everyone who gets their stuff in by that date will be equal. I'm not sure how it works for the contract phase, though. They'll be sending you a contract via snail mail sometime in late May/early June and you have to pick your complex, etc. I would probably return that one ASAP to give yourself the greatest chance of getting the complex you want (Middle Earth or Mesa Court).

You CAN live there for all four years, but only the first year is guaranteed. For your sophomore, junior, and senior year, you have to apply through the campus lottery.

alicantekid, what's the difference between middle earth and arroya vista?

"Arroyo Vista is a unique community housing primarily upper-division students on the basis of campus involvement, academic interests or Greek membership. Altogether, there are 42 houses accommodating 16, 24, or 32 residents each. Arroyo Vista is an interactive student community, with many involvement opportunities."

Arroya Vista is for continuing students(i.e. seconds years and above) .Freshmen live in the dorms in Middle Earth or Mesa Court.

In AV there isn't a dining hall there, so purchasing a meal plan is optional. They have large kitchens, so many students cook (which means microwaving TV dinners) rather than eating at the commons.
