I was just on TheDartmouth and they have an article about a black market that has been created by the students who want better housing. This concerns me, because I don't have money to buy more favorable housing. Am I likely to be screwed by this process????

Also, I saw a video on Dartmouth.edu where the president of Dartmouth talked about new residence halls being built. When will these new halls be finished???

Daughter, Kelsey, Xan, Apppro, &Drownindreams are getting ready to face that as they will be sophmores and at the bottom of the food housing chain. Freshmen are guaranteed housing then the rank system prevails: seniors, junior, sophmores. Every one is given a random number in the housing draw, and that is when you put in your request for a room. Daughter has 4070 (sophmore housing draw starts at 3500) yet she has a friend who has the 4th number from last. Daughter's roommate has number in low 3500's (she will go early in the sophmore draw).

You never know from year to year because so many factors come into play: you can begin your study abroad or leave terms sophmore year. It depends on who takes leaves, in addition, if you want to apply to one of the affinity housing, you can do that sophmore year. You cannot pledge until sophmore year s which next housing draw is the earliest I think you can move into fraternity/ sorority housing. Some studnets live off-campus, others are put on wait list on housing, but I beleive that everyone ends up with a place to live because people make last minute housing changes.
