Is Howard a good idea?

So I am narrowing down my college list, and I’ve just about got it finalized, save for a few schools I’m still up in the air about. I plan on majoring in Philosophy and minoring in French, and after college I will attend law school (assuming I do well on LSAT and get accepted somewhere). I have been primarily looking at small, liberal arts schools (mostly in New York, one in Paris), but I am also greatly interested in D. C. I am applying to American and George Washington, but since I have a 3.5 (unweighted) GPA, and an ACT score of 29 (I’m retaking in a few months, I didn’t prep the first time so I know I can do better) I would qualify for a scholarship that covers at least tuition, fees, and room. I understand that Howard is known more for its business program. If I attend Howard I would ultimately save over $100,000, but would it be worth it if I’m not going for a major in business or another of the school’s well known programs? Would I be silly to sacrifice an education at a school nationally recognized for its philosophy program in order to save money? Oh, and I am mixed, so I have no issue with the school being an HBCU

Thank you!

The philosophy department at Howard is small so you’ll get the one-on-one attention from professors once you really begin to get into your major. If you get accepted to and receive more scholarships from a school that’s well known in philosophy, then I would suggest you go with that option.
