I am completing my generals at a community college at the moment. Howard University has always been my dream school. I didn't apply to HU right after High school, because I knew I wouldn't be able to afford it. Tuition alone at Howard is $22,283. After two years there, I am sure I would owe over $50,000+. I plan on majoring in Accounting. If I don't go to HU, I feel like I would regret not making the decision to go. I hate my community college. I am only going because I keep telling myself I am working towards something I really want to do. HU doesn't really give out scholarships to transfer students either.

I won't be in any debt after my two at my community college. I go to the cheapest CC in my state, so I am able to pay my tuition out the pocket. Is any college worth that much debt?

You won’t be able to borrow that much money on your own. Who will co-sign those loans for you? Sit down with that person, and get his/her advice.

My parents would co-sign for me. They have good credit. They don’t know much about school that why I am asking for the opinions from others. They have no clue about how much school really costs. I tried to talked to them, but they keep delaying the conversation. I am trying to come up with a plan before it is time for me to transfer.

London16, have you considered Howard’s Transfer Scholarship Program? It doesn’t offer much, but…

"The Howard University Transfer Scholarship is a limited and competitive program designed to provide financial assistance to prospective transfer applicants who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement while attending an accredited community college or other post-secondary institution and wish to complete their undergraduate studies at Howard University.

To be eligible for consideration, prospective transfer applicants must have at least 30 transferable credit hours at the time of admission and at least a 3.25 grade point average from their transferring institution.

The Transfer scholarship is a one-time award of $10,000 only offered in the fall semester."

@dorie13 yes, I have read about that. Since it is so competitive, I didn’t want to get my hopes up about it. When I do apply, I will be eligible for it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention again though.
