Is Huntington Learning Center Worth the Money?

My cousin is to take the SAT in September, or October. He is embarrased he scored a 1400 in the 1st one and wants to take a personalized curse. Online courses won't work for him, he says he needs "human contact"
There are 3 main places here. Huntington, MAstermindprep and Sylvan. I think there is a Pcton review.
He said Huntington promised him anywhere from 300-400 total point increase. Anyone took this course? He is going nuts. Thanks in advance

anyone out there?

Most people on this site are advocates of self study and do not believe in Prep classes. The best way to increase your score is to buy the blue book and practice practice practice.

Appreciate your input, but I believe it must be someone out there in CC that will be humble enough to admit the need for help. Especially when we are all anonymous in here.
Any parents?

Independent study with the correct books is the most efficient way to increase your score. Prep courses cost $$ and don’t help as much. This is the general rule.

Have him try the ACT, maybe that will be better for him.

I have not tried Huntington’s prep but I did do some of Sylvan’s prep course and…let me tell you…it didn’t work very well at all. It was only when I sat down to study for the ACT with Barron’s (yes, I did much much better on the ACT than I did on the SAT) that I finally scored by 30 composite. Self-studying is a world more efficacious than prep programs in my opinion.
Use the blue book (Collegeboard puts it out) for the SAT, though.
Best of luck to your cousin!

I did 50+ hours of study at Huntington for my SAT’s and it really helped me! My scores went up 200 points (1680 to 1880). Without Huntington I would not be going to my dream school!

THanks to all of you. Appreciate your help! I believe he does need help, he just can’t do it without guidance. It’s been 3+ yrs since I took it, and I did it on my own with the blue book.
They are so many of these prep curse out there that it can be overwhelming. He told me his mom is worried he will not make it anywhere, but the course is so expensive that she asked me if it was worth it. I Mitchellheckman: what dod you like the most about the SAT course there? what do they do differently that allowed you to improve those many points?
Thank you once again!

Multitasker: as my username implies, I am a tutor and a mom. =) I have worked with students thru Huntington and in private tutoring. Some students just need the accountability to get the practice done. Also, having someone identify and focus on areas of weakness really helps. The Huntington program is very scripted, so it is not so personalized, but it provides MANY hours of practice and instruction which will help the student who pays attention and takes advantage of the opportunity. (Some students don’t – and I pity their parents who are throwing away all that money!)
Private tutoring, if your cousin can find it, is generally cheaper and often more tailored and effective. Depends on the tutor. Huntington is very pricey, but they guarantee results. He may really benefit from their program if he is willing to do the work.

Thank you very much tutormom! I will let him know.
