I was completing the CSS Profile yesterday and was reminded how probing were the questions about all aspects of your finances. In discussing it with my wife, she thought the information would be used by the colleges to determine whether a family would be able to afford to send their child to them. I was wondering, if one’s profile reflected an ability to pay full freight, whether that would have an impact on the admissions decisions.
CSS Profile definitely is consulted by need aware schools, where being full pay can be an advantage.
For need blind schools, if one believes they are truly need blind all the way thru the process…they still make educated guesses about a family’s ability to pay from other information such as address/zip code, ECs, etc…and this can impact admissions decisions as well.
Yes for need aware schools. For supposedly need blind, only if you buy that they are truly so.
