Is international studies with a concentration on a region a good major?

Im currently majoring in international studies with a concentration in international business but the problem is, is that im not that interested in the business classes that i am taking now and i really just want to major in regional studies (Japan as my region and minoring in Japanese. But im not really sure what kind of jobs i can get with that major..

You may want to look on maybe taking that focus and have that as your major, such as Japanese studies. For something as specific as this, you would really need to look into job opportunities to see what would be available

Im the same major. My advisors recommend having a minor in a region that interest you the most. I would look into career opportunities you can get with a minor in Japan or find another minor that complements it well. I am thinking for instance political science or criminal justice.

If your main concern is finding a job then I would suggest looking into careers and especially real world online job postings that appeal to you first and then choosing your major based on what those jobs require.

You don’t have to major or minor in Japanese or Japanese studies to take classes or read books about Japan. To obtain some jobs however, you do need certain majors and skills.

I think it is best to major in what will get you the job you desire and use your electives/free time to study things that you’re particularly interested in but won’t necessarily lead to a job.

Oh…thank you for all the replies. Im guessing I should just stick with international business with minor in Japanese.
