IS is dumb...

to wait until my orientation to pick out my classes? I don't know where to start since I am doing PEERS and Honors[plus I don't know what math and english class I was placed in for the summer] So, do I avoid risking valuable prof research time,or do I wait until I meet with a counselor to pick the classes to fit them in my odd schedule?
*neuroscience major btw planning on taking classes that meet med school reqs

lol my title was dumb, my bad, typo =[ "is it dumb?" ah the irony

i planned my schedule the day of my enrollment… i enrolled with my orientation counselor, i think its like that for everyone. its really not that hard, takes about an hour, using myucla class planner and bruinwalk. just take into consideration that you’re prly gona be taking 1 math, 1 science, and prly 1 GE class, like the rest of the pre-meds.

oh wow thank you =]

yeah I dont really know where to begin either. Im hoping numerous orientation lectures or workshops can get me up to speed by the third day. Ill also be leeching off wifi hotspots to come back here and make use of old threads talking about teachers and class series’.

rofl workshops.

zzzboy is an expert on workshops.

I picked my classes the day of orientation. Although, I think I researched that the day off, lol. Luckily my friend brought his laptop so I was able to search.

A side note: For orientation, I recommend you bring your own laptop. At my orientation we finished everything by going to the RA’s room and there were like 2 computers for 7 people. So we had to take turns signing up. If you are really concerned about getting your classes for sure and want a slight edge, bring a laptop so you can sign up exactly on the dot.

Does this really matter if we’re in the first session, so we basically get first dibs anyway? It’s not absolutely necessary right?

Having your laptop with you the day of registration is a big help. Remember all sophomores, juniors and senoirs have been registering already so classes are definitely filling up. There will be plenty of spots for incoming freshmen to put a schedule together but having your laptop is very helpful.

thanks everyone, i’m going to be on campus for the rest of the summer anyway, so i am bringing my laptop-great tip and thanks for the responses everyone. ^-^

How many do bring laptops? Because if there are 7 of you, 2 computers, and 5 have brought laptops…

mmm second pass on monday. Just bring a laptop if you have access to one. Everyone having one doesn’t hurt.

Would CLICC be an option?

I don’t have a laptop.

That’s kind of a long walk to rent a laptop though @@.

When I went to orientation, no one brought a laptop other than my friend. At least no one in our group. Had I been active on CC, I probably would have known what was up and brought a laptop. It didnt hurt me because I still got my classes, but it was a little nerve wrecking.

Second pass on monday? What does this mean?

I haven’t gotten around to purchasing the laptop, waiting for back to school sales to kick into high gear. The only way I’d be able to bring a laptop is if I borrowed my aunt’s laptop, but I don’t really want to hassle her.

When you enroll in classes, have two/three time frames to do so. There’s priority (forgot how you get this), first pass and second pass (in that order). Generally, I think most people have first and second pass. Second pass is the latest time to sign up for courses and allows you to sign up for all your classes (you can sign up for 10 units in first pass and 18 in second pass).

Some people already have their second pass tomorrow, so some students are already signing up for all their classes.

It wont hurt to bring your laptop but if your orientation is anything like mine, it shouldnt be that much of an issue.

Wait, so we don’t have to wait till orientation to sign up for classes?

You do. It’s just that orientation day is your first pass (I think).
