Is it a bad idea to do this?

I'll be graduating from High School soon, and I want to become an electrician or something hands on and have decided to attend community college. I did some research, and there are numerous CC's out there that offer Campus Housing. I really would like to move out of this area and grow and learn what it's like on my own and develop my own new life.

Is it a good idea to do it? I'm considering going to CC Out of State, but I'm not sure if it's a terrific idea.

It is not a bad idea, but understand that the costs of attending out of state will be significantly more. Also, if you plan to go back and live in your state, you might have licensing issues or trouble getting into the local union because they will not be familiar with the program you attend. Much of your training will be on the job which will give you connections when you finish and are looking for a job. If you plan to go back to your home state after school, you might be better off staying in your home state. If you want to get away from home, is there a technical school in your state that is further away from where you live?

I checked, and there isn’t one in my state. I live in PA, and I’m REALLY considering moving out West to Oregon or the Seattle Area and go to CC there(One of the ones with On-Campus housing). I believe me doing this would be a GREAT experience for me. I do NOT plan on coming back to PA.

If you don’t plan on going back to PA and you can afford the out-of-state fees, go for it! There’s nothing like starting over in a new place and living independently.

Well I’ll be going for student loans, and I know I can get a scholarship because I’m deaf in my right ear. Also, I receive money every month for being deaf, and I’ll work while going to college. Hopefully I’ll be fine. I’m excited. Thanks!

Do you need any learning support because of your disability? You may want to include that as part of your search.
