Is it a bad idea to mention bad family members?

<p>I have an uncle in prison and I want to write briefly on my visit with him.
It fits into my essay completely. </p>

<p>However, I am worried that colleges might look at me wrongly. I don't want to be associated with criminals or let them think I come from a bad family. I also didn't specify his crime nor his sentence. </p>

<p>I think it should be fine. It depends on what you say. I think if portray it as a time you learned something or something, it should be fine.</p>
