Is it a good idea to bargain...?

After receiving many acceptances but few good aid offers, I was wondering if it's a good idea to call up a few colleges and insist upon receiving more aid. I was told my a former NYU undergrad student that she had to call them up and bargain around with them until she was actually able to afford it; can i do the same?

You don’t bargain or insist, you politely request a FA review and mention that you got a more generous package from a peer or higher school.

Sure but there are no guarantees that it will work. Your NYU friend may have attended when the economy was in a much better position and colleges were more optimistic in their “spending”. I think it will take more than ringing up colleges and insisting on more aid. They have seen your and your family finances – you’ll need to be prepared to give them additional information about “why” they need to award you more money. There are threads about this all over the place on this and other forums.

Which schools are these?

What are your stats?

What is your EFC?

What kind of FA packages have you received?
