Is it a good idea to self-study AP Environmental Science as a freshman?

Hello everyone. How are you all today? Hope everyone is well.

I’ve been thinking about doing this and was wondering if this is a good idea or not.

Thanks for answering and have a good day!

Does your school offer the course? It’s better to take the class if available.

@skieurope Yes, my school offers it, but not many people take it. Even though at first, I was planning on taking it in 12th grade, I felt there are more classes I can take during the time over AP Environmental Science, such as AP Physics 1 and 2 or AP Chemistry.

Have a good day!

I also read that self-studying this class is beneficial.

Have a good day!

Well, wherever you read that, thew author is wrong. Colleges prefer that you take the class.

When I was going through the admissions process, I went to an Exploring College Options event, which had reps from Harvard, Stanford, Penn, Duke, and Georgetown, among others. During the Q&A, someone asked, “What do you think of applicants who self-study for additional AP’s over and above the AP classes they take?” One rep responded, “Please don’t do that. We’re not impressed by that.” The other reps all nodded.

@skieurope Thank you very much for your assistance. However, I would like to self-study for the exam not to impress colleges but because I genuinely want to. But thank you for your answer. I will try to take that into account.

Have a good day!

If you’re studying it because you want to, then there’s no real reason to shell out almost 100 bucks for a test.

@awesomepolyglot Thank you for giving me your answer as well! I will keep it in mind.

Have a good day!
