Is it a good idea to submit recommendations from math and spanish teachers?

Many colleges don't say what teachers they want recommendations from, most just say "from a teacher in major academic subject" but does spanish teacher fit that description?

many on CC will tell you that they used a rec from a foreign language teacher and got in to Harvard/Yale/wherever but my GC advised me not to ask my french teacher. and keep in mind that some schools like the University of Chicago require a math/science rec and an english/history rec, and don’t count recs from foreign language teachers as satisfying the requirement.

so are you saying asking a spanish teacher can actually hurt me? because I think her recommendation might be the best of all i can get

You need to read the website of each college you are applying to and read what they prefer in terms of recommendations.

I will, and most colleges just say 2 recommendations from teachers in academic areas… and spanish 3 and AP/5 are definitely academic, so is it fine to submit a letter from spanish teacher in this situation?

yes its fine. unless a college says that they have a preference (i.e. uchicago) there is no problem using a foreign lang teacher for a rec. it is, after all, an academic subject that you seem to be passionate about. im also using a spanish teacher for my rec, and my GC says it was totally fine.
