I plan to take 2 SAT II's, and Math is the subject in which I am most strong (it would be writing... but they just HAD to include it on the SAT I and take it away from the subject tests in 2005... stupid UC State system.)

Would it be advised to take both SAT Math I and II? I am applying to 8 schools, none of which require any SAT II's at all... should I just take one? or both? I hear that the Math I is looked down upon; is this true?

Best regards, ~Marshall

No, just take Math 2. There wouldn’t be any point in taking Math 1. Just take the subject test that you do second-best on.

Both Math1 and Math2 are counted as one subject.

Oh, darn… :/

Would you guys recommend taking only one? Or would that just look incomplete? I guess I could do decent on Chemistry or Literature, but not in the 750+ range.

Have you taken a practice test on Lit? If you are a reader and good writer, you might be surprised. My kids both did well on Lit with a very small amount of prep (750 for one, 800 for the other, both single sitting). It isn’t about specific literature works (you don’t have to know Anna Karinena or something like that).

What is your intended major? If you plan to apply for STEM majors, take Math 2 and Chemistry. Otherwise, just take what you think you can do best at.

@intparent , I am horrible at reading based standardized tests (28 ACT reading.)

My math, I’m sure I could get a practice book and hit 750+, but I don’t really have any other niches (well, I do, but there’s no SAT II philosophy or SAT II psychology haha.)

I was student of the month in chem (not AP, regular chem,) and I’m a poor reader on standardized tests, but I could do Math II, Chem, and Lit in one day and hope that I get 700+ on either Chem or Lit, and if not I could just send in Math II. Would it look awkward only sending in one? Or what would you say the threshold is (like, what score is deemed too low to send to colleges?)

Thanks guys!

Most schools that require SAT2, they want 2 subjects.

But, none of the schools I am applying to require them; I just want to boost my resume.

If it is just recommended, then having one subject is fine.
