Is it a good idea to take Winter Session courses?

I am at Union county college and I am planning to transfer to NJIT, so if I can get some courses done earlier the better. My NORMAL plan was to take my required math courses (I need to complete 3) during first and second semester, and then the final class during summer session I. I would then take a required physics course during summer 2.

HOWEVER, with this winter session I recently discovered, I was thinking of taking a math course during that session that would essentially mean I go ahead by a “session” or “semester”. I would take the final math course during 2nd semester and physics during Summer Session I rather than II. The Winter sessions are from Jan 4-20 which is really short…for anyone that has taken them already? Is there anything bad about it? Does it interfere with any spring/second semester courses?

Spring Semester classes don’t start until January 25, so there are a few days between the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring. Winter session classes are great, provided you are prepared to do NOTHING but concentrate on an intensive class for two weeks. You can get a class out of the way in a short period of time as long as you know you will spend a long time in class each day, followed by long hours of homework.

Are you sure that the college offers math during the Winter session? Some schools do not offer math in those extra-short sessions because of the difficulty in completing such a course in a short period of time.

@blprof yeah turns out no Math courses are available. There is ENG-102 available during the Winter Sessions. Its Mon-Friday and about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Best available time is 09:00AM - 12:45PM. What do you think? Do you think I should take it? I wouldn’t be taking anything else and its english class of all things so I don’t think I would mind too much…it would make it one less class I would be taking during second semester.

Only you can answer that. Many students take these kinds of compressed courses and are successful; you can be one of them if you go into it knowing that you will have to do a lot of work in a short period of time.
