I was just wondering if it is a good idea to with hold race if you're Asian.

Well, a lot of times, the last name gives us away ...

what if youre name not give it away....?

Is it ever recommended to withhold race? (Caucasian)

Probably only if you are an alien from outer-space

why would it hurt you at all to withhold race? I'm going to

thats stupid. they have ur SSN they can find out anyways.

why would they go throuhg all that trouble anyway? Why does it even matter? race just should not be an issue.

what is ssn...

I am chinese from netherlands...
So I think it's smart to withold my race
and thereby my last name does not give it away

ssn= social security number. For those living in the united states.

The acceptance rates for those who withold their race does not vary very much at all from those who identify themselves as Asian at most schools. therefore it would not make a difference. Be proud of who you are.

Yeah, be prooud of who you are. When it says race, put down the stereotypical Asian and then put "I like to read, do math, and score perfect on my SATs b/c I'm Asian. I am also amazing at piano."

Just write all that in there.(BTW, I'm Asian and I don't do any of that.)

or don't condone being categorized by race.

Or think outside the box and stereotypes so you won't have to worry about being lumped together by everyone else... there's a thought. everyone needs to stop trying to outthink the college process.

Why do they need to know your race? Why is diversity an issue at campus?
A College shouldn't THINK of diversity when picking its students - i don't care at ALL if my school is diverse, I just want to be able to know that it is filled with qualified students.

Kids who say "I need a diverse college" are the kids who bother me and promote programs such as AA. What does an artificially diverse college get you?

I've already read those. You're wrong. AA is inherently unfair and unneeded. Race should not be something we're classified by - Race Blind is the only way to make a racism free society - and it seems like minorities (Blacks, Indians, etc) want anything BUT a race blind society.

They want people to KNOW they're a minority and they want people to think they're oppressed.

what about if you're white. I mean, that just makes you EVEN MORE average to them.

But remember, whites are 80% of teh country. They aren't over represented by any means.
Asians, on the other hand, are like 8% of the country, but like 30% of college.

And, on the other side of the spectrum, blacks are like 12% of the country and 6% of college. URM.

But taking steps to correct that which involve giving an unfair advantage to blacks is inherently unfair.

Oh - you're saying unless we let unfair percentagaes of blacks and american indians into college, our coutnry is gonna go down hill? Got it. Fricken genius there. Thinking of a social liberal -100% drivel.

Colleges aren't artificially diverse. The URMs are still very qualified. This issue needs to stop. Civil Rights Movement was 30 years ago. 30 years isn't a long time people. Def not long enough to get over hundreds of years of deep racism. Untill you live the life of a URM or Black person or Native American shut your mouth because you aren't qualified to say anything.

Oh. Okay. And the Asians, who 150 years ago were doing hard manual labor jobs blowing up mountains in an effort to make the transcontinental railroad - making pennies and facing discrimination as the "yellow man" everywhere they went isn't an issue? Asians faced the same discrimination whites did - hell, Asians wern't even allowed into the country for a long while.

Asians are the most over represented group in colleges. How did they overcome the difficulties? Why can't others?
