I know it is a good idea to write about things I have struggled with but have overcome or may not pose an issue during college (for example if I had struggled with racism I would write about that) but I am worried that if I include how much ADHD has affected my studies, it would hurt my chances because I would still have these issues in college. Should I include this or not?
That’s very risky, college transitions are stressful and can combine badly with mental disorders; even if the issue is really under control, colleges might be hesitant to admit for that reason.
I would not. Don’t take the prompts quite do literally – pick something to write about that makes them want you on campus.
Even though it would make a great essay if you write about how you overcame ADHD, it is advisable not to write in that direction as colleges look for candidates who can endure the stressful routine of campus life. ADHD might have been a problem in your past, but when you mention that colleges may get skeptical about giving you an admission.
It is like a surgeon writing about a tremor. He might have overcome it but many would not chose him. I would write about something else.
