I can't think of much else at the moment. Except that I want to attend CMU because it's both a top Architecture school and a top Pyschology school. I'm having a really tough time choosing between the two majors ( yes i know, they are so different! but i cant help it haha ) so i'm trying to find universities with both. Please be honest! If you think it's a reach school for me, let me know :)

Thanks in advance for your help :)

you should be fine if your freshman grades weren’t that good. they don’t weight freshman grades heavily and the more challenges with academics you take, the better it’ll look. your sat scores are a little on the low side, though. the norm is around a 2000-2100. being from pennsylvannia should help, I think. your standing is nice, and not applying to CIT or CS is definitely less competitive. I’d say you have a good shot.

wait when did i talk about freshman grades haha. I agree that I am a little under (1960) the average, but i hope ive made up for it in other areas. I also wasn’t sure if being from PA was going to help or hurt!

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply AtoChansu!

Desi, My S (rising soph, SCS) says that architecture is the most rigorous school, with many of the kids doing all nighters in the studios. If you’re in for the intense work, this may work out for you.

I’d guess, with your GPA and being female, that as long as you aren’t applying for SCS or ECE, you have an extremely good shot. Though I would definitely apply for as many of the different CMU colleges that you have an interest in. You probably know that the majority of kids that start out in architecture (nationwide) generally do not stay in that field…high workload and then challenging to get a job. At least that’s what I hear for right now. Good luck!

It seems like all the architecture programs I’m looking into are going to be rigorous. It’s not that I’m scared of the workload or that I’m not willing to take it on, but that I don’t want to sign up for an intense program when I’m unsure of my major. In the past my passion for architecture was very intense – I was just so into it! Lately I’ve been struggling to reconnect with it…so I’m taking AP Psych and Architectural Drafting as an elective to have them side by side to really see what I’m leaning toward.

But just as busdriver11 stated, it’s becoming more and more difficult to find a solid career in Architecture because it is so competitive. My brother’s friend was an Architecture grad at UPENN( such an amazing school ) and still is having a tough time out there in the real world. I might be looking toward a brighter future with Psychology. I’m usually the dreamy, idealistic person of the group…but in this case I think I need to be very practical with my major choice.

Thanks again for reading my stats and helping me out, I really appreciate it :)

I’m truly hoping that when you guys get out in the real world in 4-5 years, that things will be looking alot better. At least with a heavily recruited school like CMU you should have a better shot at getting a good job.
