Is it advisable to rely on SAT prep books which are 3 years old?

My family isn't rich so I'm wondering if my younger brother can rely on my books(will be 3 yrs old by the time he takes the SAT) and not buy any new ones. But what if his scores might be adversely affected by that...

I’m not sure whether you’re joking.

If you’re serious: the test could drastically change by the time he takes it. It’s best to wait and get more relevant preparation materials when he is older.

Don’t waste your money. The content of different versions rarely change, and practice books don’t help that much anyway. Even if the test format changes you can still get the information you need online.

unless the test changes drastically (like adding a new section…) it should be fine. i used “old” books and they were fine.

I was studying on a 05-06 version, and took the Dec 05, 2009 SAT…IT WAS THE SAME THING!

I heard the Jan 2010 SAT would be slightly different tho???

Now I’m nervous. How will it be different?

they added a foreign language and biophysics portion to the exam. study barron’s! =D

Books that are just three years old work perfectly fine. In fact, I studied with books that are even older.

The books I study with were made the first year of the “new” SAT. He should be fine unless they somehow update it again.

It doesnt drastically change btw … You can still study from your books then check out the newer additions from the library or you could find online sites that have free SAT practice tests. Theres many ways … your not going to fail if you study from books that are 3 years old… But yes i would say check out a book from the library and see if you spot any difference …

enemyunit, not exactly…it’s a South African Foreign Language, and a Quantum Mechanics section.

I’m kidding.

silverturtle, it’s still the same thing…but i think it may be slightly harder. These are all myths, its always as equal.
