US history
AP lang
physics
spanish
honors Algebra 2

Im only taking one AP class next year and so far by looking at it im most likely not going to get accepted into my dream colleges like USC or UCLA because of the fact im not taking the most rigorous courses. But by looking at everything i provided should i just go to community college and transfer or is that not a good idea.

Your course rigor is really looking fine for the most part. Three or more years of foreign language and biology, chemistry, and physics are things that colleges look for, although APs certainly are important as well.

Remember that you are evaluated in the context of what is offered at your school. If AP US history is offered, you might want to look into taking that. Senior year, try to take no more than four APs in core areas that you are actually interested in. Also, take Pre-Calculus or College Algebra senior year; AP Stats, although it has the AP title attached to it, is not a replacement for a part of the main math progression.

You have asked this question on several forums but have yet to answer some questions asked by the posters trying to help you.

How many AP’s are available at your HS since you will be evaluated based on what is offered at your HS? UCLA does consider HS course Very Important so taking 1 AP while your fellow students are taking 3-4, could hurt your chances.

You mentioned in another post that you are interested in the Cal States besides UCLA and USC. CSU’s and UC’s use a capped weighted GPA based on 10-11th grades only so more than 4 AP/UC approved Honors classes will not make a difference in your CSU/UC GPA but again course rigor is considered. UCLA however will consider an unlimited # of AP courses besides the capped weighted.

USC does not state how they weight your GPA so your UW GPA will be more telling on your chances but you still need good HS course rigor to be competitive.

Taking a lot of AP’s will help but could also help your chances if you do not get A’s in these courses. So until the end of Junior year, it will be hard to tell what colleges would be good Matches. Come back at the end of Junior year and post all your stats including EC’s and test scores and what schools you have on your target list.

Best of luck and keep working hard.

My HS is very small because I do an independent study program so there is one teacher that teaches tons of classes for each subject category. My school does offer AP us history. I am not very strong in history (the one B I have right now is in regular history and the teacher is also horrible) so I’m not really sure if I should try to do it. Also, should I skip algebra 2 and go onto honors pre calc?? For science they offer AP environmental science so should I just do that instead of physics? they also offer AP Spanish 3 which is another subject I’m not completely strong in.

what are your opinions?

Definitely do not skip algebra 2 - you need a solid foundation before going on to pre-calculus. I would be surprised if your school even allowed that. Also, physics is more important than environmental science, even if ES is an AP.

Agree with the above poster, depending upon your intended major, schools like to see Biology/Chemistry/Physics especially STEM. They do not all have to Honors or AP. If AP Environmental is something of interest to you, I would take it Senior year after you complete the rest of your sciences. Also schools like USC and UCLA like to see at least 3 years of a Foreign Language so take AP Spanish 3 or regular Spanish 3. Also I agree you should not skip Algebra 2. Even if you only reach Pre-Calc by Senior year, you will have a good foundation to continue with Calculus in college.
