Hey guys!
So, to give you an idea of where I am applying, my top three schools include Columbia, Cornell, and UPenn, so clearly I need a decent score!
However, I'm not too great at anything SAT related. I always get well about a 700 on the math, but CR is really not my thing. I've taken three practice tests with the Kaplan program (I got it for free on a scholarship, otherwise I wouldn't have tried), but have ended up with scores in the 1900s, which is clearly not good enough for the schools I'm applying to.
HOWEVER, I got a 33 on my ACT, which is good enough for the schools I'm applying to.
So, this is a long winded way of saying, would it be bad for me to just not submit an SAT score? I'm going to take the test, but it really is not my thing....

No!! Don’t even bother retaking the SAT, your scores would have to really improve a LOT to match the ACT score. Just send the ACT, they weight both the same way. Congrats and good luck!

I only submitted an ACT to Berkeley and got accepted. 33 is on the low side for all those schools though.

Okay thanks!
I’m retaking the ACT for a higher score, but since when is a 33 low? Sure, for Columbia and MAYBE UPenn, but it’s still in their 50 percentile. And, it’s a 99 percentile score!

But are you being compared to the population as a whole, or for an Ivy League applicant field? 33 isn’t too low for Columbia/Penn, but 35 or a 36 would be more impressive and align you with the rest of the applicants. Some schools may look more favorably upon the SAT - there’s some convoluted thread looking at SAT bias that I don’t really want to go and find.

33 is not low… it is more midrange.

I never stated that a 33 is a low score.

Some schools require the SATs though. I took them and didn’t score as well as I did on the ACT because my school doesn’t offer SAT prep and I had almost no clue how it worked before I took it. I would take it just in case you decide later on to apply to a school that requires it. It can’t really hurt and you can always not submit it.

All schools accept either the SAT or ACT.

Doesn’t Columbia require SAT subject tests though? I’m pretty sure there is something to do with SATs that is required.

ACT + SAT subject tests

Than I misinterpreted what you said, my fault!
Yeah, I’m worried about the supposed “SAT bias.” Because I’m really horrid at Reading Comprehension…

33 is good enough for Ivies… work on other stuff.
