I heard that if i take the sat test more than twice, then my score would be averaged of all test scores that I took.so that if i made bad grade in first test, BUT I did good on my third one, is it gonna be averaged?

I am actually born in Asia but i have lived in America morethan 3yrs now and i have american residency. Do i need to take a toefl test?? is their no option i don't need to take that??
pleast give me some advise all college confidential members thx.

They ALL take your best score, so keep taking them as much as you can stand it.

The only difference is that some schools take the best subscore from the 3 parts of the SAT, while others take the best total score or "best sitting."
(By "sitting," they mean you are sitting down on one day, taking the test.)

So, suppose you have these 3 results (just making up dates):
Sept. 14 CR 570 M 620 W 550 total 1740

Oct. 21 CR 610 M 660 W 540 total 1810
Dec. 15 CR 650 M 650 W 600 total 1900

One school would see your "best" as: CR 650 M 660 W 600 (total 1910)

because they're splicing in
that higher Oct. Math score

while another school will choose your "best" as your Dec. 15 results, as is,
because of the 3 times you sat for the exam, you got the highest actual
total on that day.

Even though they send all of your scores, they'll only look at what they
call the one "best" outcome.

Even tho I just said, "as much as you can stand it," there's some research that says that after 3 tries, if they['re rather close together, you've pretty much reached your maximum potential. So, go fishing instead!

I have heard that it is impressive to only take it once... but im not sure if its seen as a negative for taking it too much. I'd say after 3, they'd start getting suspicious why you had to take it so many times.

Please don't let this be the final word, because foreign students would know better about TOEFL, but here is what I think:
I keep seeing essays here online that sound like very intelligent, logical candidates who don't have complete mastery of English word usage. I admire them, because I know I could never do as well in their languages.
I would like my application readers to know, up front, that the reason I make a grammar error is because of foreign language and not because I'm a poorly-spoken American!! So I think the TOEFL result will only elevate their opinion of your application personal essays, perhaps help excuse if you only get an 8-10 on the essay part of the Writing SAT-I.
There is a spot to check off what is your native language on the college appliations I've seen, but the TOEFL score would quantify that.
Good luck.

Foreign students who really know about this, I hope you'll chime in (= speak up). I'm just speculating here.

My personal rule of thumb, that I have often seen in college admissions advice books, is to really try to limit yourself to 3 testings. 3 itself is fine, but anything more than that and a) you are highly unlikely to improve and b) you start to look a little more score obsessed. I mean, adcoms aren't going to burn your application or anything if you take it 4 times, but I would strongly suggest sticking with 3 or fewer, if only for your own personal sanity than anything else.

But lets say. Your going to a 3rd or 4th tier school, not really competitive and you need that last score for a scholarship etc. I dont think it will hurt you one bit.

Of course, when we talk about Harvard and you took the SAT 6 times. It "looks" bad but remember that when you go to a lesser school, good test scores and GPA will be enough. The looks simply do nothing.
