Next year I’m going to be a senior in HS and I was thinking of not taking AP French (currently in French 4 H) because of the other AP’s I’m taking (AP lit, AP gov/econ, AP calc bc, AP studio art). I want to be competitive for the higher UC schools like UCLA… Is it bad if I don’t take a language in my last year?
I would say if you are great at French, go for it! I would suggest to look up the high school requirements for UC schools like how many credits of a language do you need, etc. I’m about to be a senior and take Honors French 4 (we don’t offer AP French, so the 3 out 13 of us that are taking the exam are calling it French 5!!)
I would also recommend to spend the rest of your summer maybe watch a French movie with subtitles or listen to French 24 (France’s news center). Or use the app Duolingo!
You’ll be okay if you don’t take it as French 4H will be sufficient for UCLA, but doing so may mean you’ll have to take one semester of French in college, which a good AP score woukd waive.
