Is it bad to take IB Bio instead of Physics for intended Engineering major?

My cousin told me that IB Physics is algebra-based, so it’s not the same as Physics classes in college which are calc-based. So I don’t know if it’s bad that I’m taking IB Bio as my science (I do not want to double-science) just because the Physics teachers at my school are either bad or really hard.

It is best to have at least some kind of high school physics so that you have a general conceptual familiarity with the subject when you take calculus-based physics in college. It is not required for high school physics to be calculus-based.

Will you complete all three of physics, chemistry, and biology in high school (not necessarily at HL or AP level)?

It’s very helpful as an engineer to have a physics background in high school. This way you can focus on applying advanced math to the physics rather than trying to figure out what the heck work means.

I have already taken Biology 1 Honors, Chemistry 1 Honors, and Physics 1 Honors.

You should be ok with physics since you have had high school physics. Non-calculus-based IB (SL or HL) physics may not be much incremental value.

However, if you plan to take an IB HL science, you may want to check whether biology or chemistry is a better choice for a prospective engineering major. Many engineering major programs have chemistry as a requirement, but not as an essential prerequisite to anything else. If this applies to the kind of engineering you are interested in, and the college accepts IB HL chemistry to exempt the requirement, then it may be more useful to take IB HL chemistry if the same does not apply for biology.

Agree with above – you can take any science you want next year.

I have taken one year of each of the 3 sciences. I have a choice of IB Bio, Chem, or Physics, and because the Physics teachers at my school are either really hard or really bad, I want to choose Bio. I want to major in engineering though, maybe.

Also, I am a junior, so that means I will have 3 years of Bio instead of physics if I decide IB Bio over IB Physics.

(By the end of my highschool career)
