is it bad to take less than 12 units the sem b4 transfer.?

I applied to UC for next fall.

I initially put my planned coursework for 12 units. But one of the classes is unbearable and it is so hard to add other stuff.

So is it bad to take just 9 units? I will be up to 60 units without it anyways and this whole semester is basically electives ( such a waste -.-).
So is it wise to reupdate my planned work with just 9 units?

Also, out of curiosity, what happens if you fail a class in the spring?

For your first question, as long as you have at least 60 units and have completed all your pre-reqs, it's fine.

to be more clear, what I meant was will it affect my admission chances to the more competitive UCs such as Berkeley or LA, if i was to only take 9 units in a semester.

they really cant say anything if you have the minimum 60 semester units by the end of spring

I'll give you a scenario that I spoke with a Cal adviser on:

Lets say I have finished all my pre-reqs, am IGETC certified and even finished the undergrad breadth requirements. Since you wouldn't NEED to take any more classes, unless for self fulfillment, make sure you show that you're spending your time elsewhere. Maybe you have taken less units because you have decided to work more, etc... It's opportunity costs, if you can spend your time better picking one option over another, then take it. And whether or not it shows laziness or anything, that depends on how you use the extra time allotted to you.

I have 64 units completed so far. I will be taking 9 units before I transfer this fall. I don't think schools care as long as you get everything done before you go to the university.

I have 60 units now and I am taking 10 in the spring, so I will be a part-time student. I called the UC Undergraduate Application Processing Service and I asked if it can affect my admission chances. They said it will not affect my admission chances as long as I do not jeopardize 60 units. :)

It doesn't really matter, I took 9 units one semester and I'm at Cal now. As long as you meet all of your requirements then you are good to go.

I've talked to a UCLA rep. about this situation several months ago, and she said it's completely fine as long as you have 60 UC transferable units...

I'm taking only 8 units this semester and will have exactly 60 UC transferable units before I transfer w/o AP...

I'm not taking any credits during the spring semester and every representative I've spoken with has told me that it isn't an issue, as long as I have 60.
