My son took the SAT and in 600s on math and 500s in writing and reading. He then worked hard on the writing and when he took SATs again - his writing went up to 680 but math went down into 500s and reading about the same!!

I think if he prepared properly for all 3 sections over the summer he could do well on all 3 sections.

I've heard that many schools don't even look at the writing score. Also unclear as to whether they will average his scores or what they will do?? Any input would be appreciated.

Three times is not a problem. Some schools want all the scores, but some schools allow super scoring where you just send the top scores. The super scoring started after my super student (haha) went through, so I do not know whether they take the top sitting or the top of each of the sections.

^
Depends on the school. As I recall, some will just look at the top sitting, whereas others will pull the top score for each section and combine them regardless of whether they were in the same sitting.

Three times is fine, but I wouldn’t advise any more than three.

Also, my understanding is that the writing score is typically considered but not given as much weight as CR+M. However, the essay score is (and should be) largely irrelevant, as the essay section doesn’t actually evaluate whether you can write at a college level.
