Is it bad to take the expensive computer to college?

For Christmas, I bought my son a $1000 Asus Zenbook for college thinking that is what college kids need.

But I also bought a cheapy, light weight, still excellent, Asus for $300 for the younger kids.

Now that my son is about to move in, I am wondering if perhaps he should take the cheaper, but excellent quality (Asus computers are always excellent) to college, at least to begin with? I am talking about being worried about theft.

No. As long as your son doesn’t leave his laptop unattended during classes, trips to the library etc; he should be ok. If your son is living on campus, remind him to lock up his room so that people won’t be tempted to steal anything out of his room. If he does those things then he should be fine with an expensive laptop at school.
