so i took the SATs for the 3rd time this past saturday and today i heard three things about taking the SAT for the 3rd time:

colleges will look at your highest scores of each section

colleges will begin to average your scores of each section b/c of taking the SATs a 3rd time

definitely don’t take the SATs for a 4th time

publics like UC's and probably U mich take one one sitting, but all other colleges take a composite score of just all ur best scores for either cr, math, and writing. and no sats for a 4th time is frowned upon, 3 is okay. rule of thumb is u get once chance to mess up bad, one chance to do okay, and one final chance to do well

Does that rule of thumb still apply if one or more tests were taken during your freshman or sophomore years? I have a friend who has been taking the SATs ever year since seventh, and will likely continue to do so until her senior year. I was planning to take them myself this March (I'm a sophomore), but not if I wouldn't be able to take it thrice more without looking... weird.

yes its always 3 no matter what grade you are in. if everyone took it like 5 times, the composite scores would mean much less. ur friend might have just screwed herself over
