Is it basically impossible to transfer to McCombs from out of state?

Since the whole 10% (or whatever it is now) rule in Texas, is it basically a waste of time to try to apply for transfer into Texas as a business major? I can provide my stats if needed but if it's a waste, then no need there....

Not impossible at all. I’ve met a bunch of people that transferred into McCombs from out of state. A couple were from CA like yourself. You need pretty outstanding grades and activities though. Why McCombs though? Why not Haas?

top 10% makes it tougher for freshman who are out of state, not transfers. Post your stats. Also, like USofPlutarchy said, are you considering haas?

I’m mainly using the UC schools as my safety, both financially and academically. I guess it’s just a personal preference for wanting to choose Texas over Berkeley.

As for stats…I’m maintaining a 4.0 so far, with 59 units completed, non-traditional student…got some, but not amazing, activities outside of school (like volunteering, tutoring, work, etc etc)…not sure what else to put on here

Your GPA is solid (the average for transfers is around 3.9). I’m not so sure aout what they look for in ECs though.

Thanks LonghornDan. I’m not sure what kind of ECs they are looking for either, although I hope work experience would somehow help. I was gonna say being Asian and from California, but then again, just saw that there’s a lot of Asians at UT so probably not helping actually…oops

lol @ the Asians comment. McCombs looks for leadership, whether it be in ECs or work experience. Oh yeah, and they love the “we’re going to change the world” type student. Kind of funny since most of the kids want to be inv. bankers. Your GPA is great, so if I were you, I’d start or try to manage some type of “green” initiative at your school or community and articulate in your essays why McCombs is so important to you.
