is it better to apply under undecided or material sciences?

I want to major in Material Sciences however i think the engineering program at UMD is quite tough to get into. Would it be better to apply undecided or as material sciences? Im also wondering the same for colleges like Penn States, and VT with solid engineering programs, but are very easy to get into.

Thanks

You should go ahead and apply to Clark for engineering. If they don’t feel that you make the “cut” for the LEP (limited enrollment program), they will place you in Letters and Sciences and you can work towards doing great in your classes and applying to transfer in later.

Do you know if it is the same for VT, and Penn State. I don’t have the strongest high school GPA, or SAT score. But i currently am at a competitive engineering internship, and am writing a full length research report that will be published, will that help alot?

It is MUCHMUCHMUCH easier to get into any LEP as a prospective freshman than once you’re already at UMD. Put it as your major on your application, please! So many of my friends are having trouble getting into the college they want now because they came in as undecided.
