Is it better to be Waitlisted or Deferred at Bing?

Yeah, so I've been waitlisted, and I'm just trying to figure out which one would be better. With being waitlisted, there isn't much you can do compared to being deferred.

Does being wait-listed mean that you're past the "grades" part, test scores, etc? Also, with being deferred, I'm guessing those are the applicants not past the stage of test scores being satasfied, etc?

If that's the case, I'm guessing being wait-listed is better, even though an improvement in grades won't mean as much as opposed to being deferred. Those who are wait-listed are past the part of having good grades, etc?

Thanks!

Deferred is for ED/EA only

neither. Accepted is best

Micny, do you mind if i ask how your grades are?

I don't mind ;p.

Around a 92-94% GPA on a scale of 100, with not so good SAT scores in the 1700's. One of sections had a score in the 600's though; any other questions on how the recommendation, essay, etc were, just let me know :).

Oh, the GPA of 92-94% was Un-weighted.

I'm giving you a range of numbers because my counselor needs to talk about how we weigh it, and how it might need to be changed.

if you wanted to look at it in practical terms, they're basically the same. However, Deferred gives you more of an opportunity to prove yourself worth for the college. As said above, Deferred only happens in EA/ED decisions. Most colleges don't reject applicants from EA/ED unless they are WAY out of the running. Anyone close or borderline gets deferred. This way, they still have their Senior Years to do something to bolster their transcripts.

Waitlisted is kind of a sitting duck situation for applicants. It only occurs during Regular Decision which, in addition to being the second and final decision making process, is kind of late in the year to start improving your stats. You kind of have to hope enough people reject their offer of admissions so that you are accepted. There isn't much you can do to influence decisions since the process is done.

With EA/ED, you kind of have two chances of getting accepted. Two different pools

Thats why many people say you have a better chance of being accepted applying early.
