I intend to major in economics, but I'm worried that my relatively low SAT maths score (580) might put some colleges off.

Is it better to not declare my major?

Very few colleges require you to mark an intended major. Do whatever you wish.

Depending on this November test I am expecting a 620-650 on math (eco major here too.) and am in a similar boat. I am declaring as an eco major regardless.

Any other opinions?

don’t stress about majors

It depends on the school.

Some admit by major, and changing major afterward is not guaranteed. Others admit everyone (or everyone in a particular division, like arts and sciences) in one big pool, and allow changing or declaring majors later easily. Others have some mix of methods.
