is it better to submit you application as early as possible?

when colleges start accepting application, is it better to submit it as early as possible?

You can try to look up when they’ll start reviewing applications on a school by school basis, then submit it maybe a week before then at the earliest.

If you can’t find anything, try to submit it about half a month before the deadline for applying (in case something goes wrong).

But no, it makes no difference, unless the school has rolling admission and it’s really late in the process. No difference at all.

home is right, you could literally turn your app in the day of the deadline and it would not effect chances of admissions. It’s just better, as he said, so have it all well done before then in case there’s a problem.

Very interesting question. I attended a college symposium sponsored by my son’s HS in the spring. There were several present and past admissions directors speaking from NYC area colleges – none of them had rolling admissions – and one noted “We judge student interest in our school by the date they submit their applications. We read applications in the order submitted, and our standards tend to get higher closer to the January 1st deadline”. I’m not sure how prevalent this is, but the take-away message I got was: If you’re really interested in the school, get the application in early.

Many seniors find themselves overwhelmed by the double whammy of finishing their applications and finishing up the fall semester. I think you are much better off getting your applications done earlier in the fall, when you have more time available.

It’s always good to get done early :-)

If the school does rolling admissions, it will definitely be helpful to send them in early!

I’m not sure where the quote is, but some adcom from Harvard said that they started reviewing applications (for RD) on December 1st in the order that they’re received, and that it always is a lot more pleasant to read the first 100 essays than it is to read the last 1,000…

Then again, a lot of colleges nowadays use more than one person in determining who gets accepted, and apps are usually jumbled up in the process. A lot of colleges also don’t review the apps in the order that they’re sent in… I guess it all depends.

But for all rolling admissions schools, it definitely helps to get your app in early.
