Not to hijack this thread but buzymom where can I get info on what you just posted? I’m currently attending South Texas College & currently have a 3.88 GPA. My goal is to transfer to a university…

Hey so I have a few questions about 4yr transfer vs CC transfer

How do transfer students from ranked 4 year institutions (state and private) compare to those from community colleges? When applying to a private university, will admissions understand that it is more difficult to do well at a 4yr vs cc?

Ex: 4yr student with a 3.7 vs cc student with a 3.8, they both have equal ECs/test scores/essay-fit. Who would have a better chance?

I’m having the same problem. I’m transferring from a 4yr university but I also went to a CC. My CC GPA is higher than my 4yr GPA… So would that help decide for admissions since a 4yr is significantly harder than a CC?

Does anyone have any information about this? I know most people would assume private schools know it is more difficult to do well at a 4yr vs cc, but I’ve heard some private schools tend to accept a good amount of ccc. Ex: USC…I know they tend to accept a lot of ccc, but is this because ccc tend to be the majority of transfer applicants…if there were more 4yr students applying for transfer to USC do you think these numbers would be different?

Going to CC then top school might be risky, but is possible. If your stats are good, i would just recommend going to the best affordable school you can get into now and just stick with it… transferring can be pain.
But if you do go to a CC, check out their honors program if they have a good one.
Also NYU’s CCTOP program and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation!
