Is it common for university to accept SAT taken after the application deadline?

As you may know, some schools such as MIT whose deadline is on January 1st accept the SAT on January. But this is not always explained in the school's website. Although MIT states on its website that SAT on January is acceptable, some colleges such as Grinnell don't state that in its website, but its admission officer told me that it's acceptable by email. Can I assume that most universities/colleges whose deadline is before January 25th accept the SAT on January? Or should I ask each university/college whether or not it's acceptable?

Every university has its own policy, and usually it is explicit at its website. Still, some universities are willing to accept the Jan SAT if you email them explaining your case. Usually, these who state you have to submit the SAT till Jan 1 obligate you to submit an SAT by the deadline but still accept new grades after the deadline. However there are always universities who don’t look to Jan SATs at all. You should email every university whose test deadline system you are not clarified about, although you’re more likely to not receive an answer this year.

You should probably ask just in case…
It’s kind of important lol

And I agree with Sampaio. Also, schools don’t always have a “before or after the deadline” policy. It depends on the application deadline and the test dates around that time.

Thanks for your advice. I will ask for as many universities of my choice by email, and to those which didn’t respond to my email, I will probably send my scores just in case.

If you cannot find an answer on the website you need to contact the college because for colleges with Jan 1 or after application deadlines, about half require all testing to be completed by the Dec dates and the other half accept the Jan SAT (and some even accept the Feb ACT).
