Is it common to do drastically better on the PSAT than the SAT?

Here's the deal: my SAT score is 2010 superscored (670 M, 650 CR, 690 W w/ 10 essay).

Today I took a Kaplan PSAT and got a 225. LOL. The breakdown was 69 M, 76 CR, 80 W.

Is this accurate or not? I noticed that the CR passages were really easy in this book. Math is definitely easier (no Algebra II on the PSAT) and writing seemed about the same. How the hell did I get a perfect score in Writing. lol this can't be legit.

P.S. this was the diagnostic PSAT, and I am using the 2011 premier edition.

bump…

Also: I scored my test incorrectly; I got 65 in Math, not 69. So it’s 221.

The only accurate tests are from the blue book.

I know that :I but are Kaplan’s tests somewhat accurate?

Quite the contrary. Most people I know did a lot better on the SAT than the PSAT (mostly because they were better prepared as seniors). I did much better on the SAT (2190 vs 180)

I heard the Barron’s PSAT was harder than the real thing. Should I take a Barron’s test and then average the two scores?

Thanks :0

Personally, I wouldn’t trust Kaplan. My experience with it shows that it’s usually a lot easier. Here, just to check if your PSAT score is a lot higher, take this CollegeBoard PSAT test: http://www.genevaschool.org/wp-content/uploads/2011-Practice-Test.pdf

Thanks, I’ve been looking for that PSAT test all over :)

The PSAT is considerably shorter than the SAT and has no actual writing in the writing section.

kaplan is awful, used it last summer. only predict scores using the blue book!!

but yeah, my CR PSAT was 77 and my CR SAT is a 720. that’s the only section i did better on with the PSAT (65 math vs 710 math and 77 writing vs 800 writing).

good luck though! practice is key :)
