Is it common to drop out from college and attend cc to transfer?

Is it common to drop out from college at the end of the freshman year, and apply & attend community college in order to transfer to UC? (or in similar situation?)
I know lots of people who attend cc RIGHT AFTER high school, but I’ve never seen someone who make that decision after spending about a year in other college.
Is it common??
Or does it seem nonsense? I am worried because that’s what I am planning to do… :frowning:

Are you attending a for profit school? Are you passing your current courses? Your other threads indicate you want to drop out before the semester ends. Why not finish the last few weeks then transfer? You’ll have to include this college on transfer applications, so you may as well finish out the semester.

It’s not uncommon for kids go away for a year then realize the school was too expensive and transfer to their local state college or cc. Dropping out isn’t common though.

Lots of people switch to CC for various reasons. #1 is financial. They might prefer finishing their gen ed for cheap and then transferring.

2 Lack of the major they want at school. For example, imaging you attend a LAC but realized you really really want to be at business school but your LAC doesn't even offer the pre-requisite entry level business courses. Might be easier to switch to a CC and then transfer to a b-school.

It is more common than you think! I actually did this. I asked my admissions counselor at my #1 school (place I hope to transfer) if it would worry the committee and she said no. As others have said people go to CC for various reasons after they’ve enrolled in a 4-year college. #1, they cannot afford it. #2, they’re miserable. #3. health/family issues. #4 lack of depth for major, etc. That is why it is critical for you to write a great transfer essay because they are curious on your experience and why you want to transfer. It won’t hurt you! Make sure you are doing well academically and you stay involved.
