we shall have to make lots of assumtions in this post -

assuming that the "Rubin- triple" on my bill means that I am definately in rubin,

and assuming that I decide I preffer to be in Weinstein above any other option (I'm cming from Israel, and want to retain some social connection to jews that doesn't involve spending time at the Hillel house)

and assuming there is no low- cost housing option in Weinstein (is that true?)

and assuming that I want to pay more money to be in weinstein rather than a triple in Rubin,

THEN

is there a way to request a dorm change now? or after I get my housing thing in the mail? or do I have to wait till school starts, or a month into school or whatever?

...yeah, another annoying incoming freshman question... but aren't we all? I think we each get like three questions... then it already becomes annoying. so I'm still on my first - I hope I am pre-annoying.

cheers
Eli

ps this all happened cuz I put weinstein as my first choice, and checked the low cost housing option box - not even thinking to check whether there was a low cost option at weinstein. is there? if there isn't, I would have solved this issue ages ago by deciding what was more important to me - weinstein's jews or saving money. now I don't know if I can make the descision... I am "stuck" in rubin. well at least my friends will get a kick hearing that I am living on 5th ave.

Wait, what gives you the impression that most of the Jews are in Weinstein?

That's an incorrect assumption stagedoor, NYU does not group dorms according to ethnicity. Weinstein is the name of the alumnus who donated the money to build the dorm, nothing more (just like Cole's, Kimmel, Furman, Kauffman, etc.). The only place on campus where Jews are grouped together are the Orthodox Jews, who have all the lower floors in one tower of Carlyle Court so they don't have to use the elevators on the Sabbath. If you're not an Orthodox Jew, don't worry about finding other Jews on campus, there are plenty in every dorm.

Also, if I remember correctly, Rubin & Hayden are the only freshmen dorms with low cost housing. Cheer up, Rubin is a nice dorm, much nicer than Weinstein.

i think what he's referring to is that a lot of jews initially choose weinstein as their first choice. seeing as it seems that not many people in general put weinstein down as this first choice, the jews who choose weinstein due to its kosher dining hall usually get it. Thus, there are many jews living in weinstein.

(the jews in weinstein wasn't the point. I already know that there are more jews in weinstein cuz of the koser dining room, and of course I was in no way suggesting that nyu places people in dorms according to ethnicity, it is simply peoples choice)

is there a way to change dorms now? or only later? ... that was my question

try to contact housing and ask them about it. and let us know how it works out, because there are quite a few people unhappy with their dorm assignments..
