Is it easier to get into CP Pomona as an Animal Health Science major or an Animal Science major?

D has a 3.6 GPA and an 1100 SAT score. She was considering either biology or Animal Science (pre vet), but has recently said she might be interested in becoming a Vet Tech. I heard good things about CPP’s Vet Tech degree.

  • Is it easier to get into CP Pomona (FTF) as an Animal Health Science major or an Animal Science major?
  • Is it possible to switch between these majors?
  • Do any other schools in the western US have a good Vet Tech major?

Both majors are impacted at CPP. No recent data but data from 2017 shows Animal Health Science with a 28% acceptance rate with 482 applicants and 135 admitted. Animal Science had a 39% acceptance rate with 1215 applicants and 471 admits.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for!

Also, I saw in slide 9 of https://www.cpp.edu/~data/documents/cpp-facts/just_the_facts_f2017.pdf that:

  • the average Agriculture major had a 3.51 GPA and a 1009 SAT, while
  • the average Science major had a 3.59 GPA and a 1148 SAT.
Thus, it appears that it would be easier to be admitted into the Agricultural dept as opposed to the Science dept. However, I could not find an average GPA/SAT score for each major.
  • Is there any way to figure out the average GPA and SAT scores for those applying Animal Health Science major v. Animal Science?

I would look through this year’s Freshman admission posts for the data of admitted, waitlisted or rejected applicants. Although CC posters are self selecting and many times the GPA posted may not be accurate. Other than SJSU, I know of no CSU that lists average GPA/tests or EI by major.

Here is some posts I found:
