Hey everyone, I was having trouble understanding the acceptance based on the college major your trying to get.Basically, does your prospective major affect your chances of getting accepted, that is, If I applied to an engineering program for example would I have a harder time then if I went with an History major. Sorry If this is an obvious question but I have no idea, and am cool with either economics or business admin, but I wanted to see which would be easier to get into. Also is the liberal arts of UIUC hard to get into? I was having trouble finding info on that
Thanks for the help!

Is it easier to get into Economics(Liberal arts) in UIUC ,Then to any Major in the business program?

At schools that admit by major, yes, admission rates definitely differ by major. UIUC admits by major.

No, the liberal arts at UIUC are fairly easy to get in to for someone who has good stats. Easy/hard is relative, after all.

However, switching in to some majors at UIUC may be quite difficult, so if you are interested in a business major, I would list business as your first-choice major and maybe econ as your second-choice major. UIUC doesn’t seem to like to outright reject people (and allow you to list a second-choice major), so that would be your best bet. That’s because transferring from business to econ once at UIUC seems to be quite easy, but transferring from econ to business seems much harder.

Do you think a Gpa of about 3.3 with a 32 on the act would be a good benchmark? or should I try to add some more to it?

The ACT is definitely good enough, and you can’t do much about your GPA now anyway. I would concentrate on making the essays great.
