is it easier to transfer from UTD to UT than from other schools?

I got CAP'd today, and I need to weigh my options. UT Arlington would get me to UT sure enough, but it seems like they don't give much in the way of scholarships, wheras UTD gives good money, especially to folks with high scores. So does UTD, as a former UT satellite school, give you an advantage when transferring to UT over other schools, or is it all equal? I don't want to spend an expensive, boring year at UTA when I could be at a cheaper, better school and still end up at UT.

UTA is dirt cheap. You can live at home for a year, and it's under $5k.

UTD is NOT easier to transfer in--it is just as difficult as any other school. Plus it has a very good reputation as being difficult for intro-level classes. It's the 2nd best UT campus (which is why they don't participate in CAP). They give good money, but they expect you to stay 4 years.

And UTD has a reputation for being very boring. And at UTA you are guaranteed to get in if you get a 3.2, which is easy. At UTD you would need a very good GPA, not to mention a strong resume and essays.

IT's up to you, but I'd go with UTA if I want to end up at UT.

thanks for the info, but if you could clear this up, collegeboard said that tuition and fees for UTA was $7100, plus about 10 grand more for room and board, books and transportation and stuff. Where'd you get your numbers for UTA? Also, collegeboard said that academic scholarships run about 4k, do you know of any higher lever scholarships for high SAT scores or National merit semifinalists?

If you really want to go to UT Austin, then UTA will probably make that journey a little easier. However, if you don't meet the GPA requirement, or end up doing well and want to transfer elsewhere, UTD would be better choice. I was CAP-ed in high school, chose to attend a school outside the UT system, and got in as a transfer student. For certain programs, it's very doable.

I'm not very familiar with CAP, but make sure it guarantees you access to the school you want to attend (CLAS, McCombs, etc.).

Best of luck :)

UTA costs a little more than $5k. For 30 hours, it's about $8000.

Housing and food is estimated to cost $6000 or so. But if you stay at home, it would be a lot less.

UTD is $4300 per semester this year, and will go up next year. Waterview is also a dump and I would not force my own worst enemy to live there. If you go there, get an apartment somewhere else. Waterview is downright scary.

I would honestly just take the guaranteed admission with a 3.2 at UTA. Unless you think there is a serious doubt you would not get a 3.2, graduating from UT will look a lot better than from UTD unless you want to work for TI.

UTD is very much a tech school, and still has more grad students than undergrads. UTA is much more of an undergrad school. It is largely a commuter school, but in my opinion would be a lot more fun. It also would be a lot easier school.

My friend going UTD is getting fed money through the roof, and supposedly their business program is on par with many good schools across the nation.
