Is it easy to find a job outside LA after graduating from Marshall?

I'm from Dallas and I think I have a decent shot at transferring into USC Marshall and was wondering if USC is too bent on LA and California postgraduation. I think I remember reading somewhere that 95% of USC alumni live in California. Would it be easy to find a job in Dallas after graduation?

UT Austin/Rice gogo

Andrew,
Please look at the alumni forum on the USC website. There are alumni groups all over the world, 17 in Asia. Our Atlanta alumni group has 460 members. Many of these hold executive positions at CNN, major law firms, IBM, Coca Cola and others.

The state of Texas sends the most students to SC after California. Please remember California has the highest number of residents in the country. Contact the Dallas USC Alumni group. There should be a website for them. Perhaps an alumnus who lives in Dallas could answer your question about job opportunities.

Yes, there are large numbers of alumni in California. In the 2010 freshmen class now enrolled 53% are from California, the rest are from out of state or international. I do not have the percentage of alumni in California, but it is far below 95%.

To answer your last question it is not easy anywhere in today’s economy to find a good position. There are shortages in certain fields. You can find that information on the internet.

Call Marshall and ask about job placement. Here is the number: 800 352 5719 .

And Georgia Girl!!!

It’s never “easy” to find a job. You have to go out there, submit your resume, call back, interview, get rejected, try again, and then hopefully get lucky. What USC and the Trojan Family can help you with is getting you an in, helping you get in touch with people that may have a need, but after that it’s up to you to impress them.

I guess in a sense it’s never “easy” to find a job, but I believe that the Trojan familiy really does take care of others in the Trojan family. Speaking as a Marshall student, it is emphasized that the connections we have in LA but like some of the previous posts there are plenty of alumni outside of LA and all over the country! Hope you decide to come to Marshall

I’m from Texas and recently graduated from USC Marshall in December 2010. With that being said, the alumni network is nowhere near as strong as it is in CA, obviously. Thus far, I have been able to get job interviews, but it has been all on my own. The alumni groups are great and are happy to help, but it is not like CA. USC might as well be Nebraska State here in TX, since many people are not aware of it (unless they are football fans).

However, I do not regret my decision and would not have it any other way. Going to 'SC has been an amazing experience and if I can land interviews at top firms, you can as well.

Thanks a bunch for your your honest opinion! That’s basically exactly what I thought as far as name recognition outside of California. Whenever I tell people here that I’m applying to USC, most only vaguely know what I’m talking about. Even if they do, most don’t realize how good of a school it really is.
I still however, think that USC is one of the best schools out there and the business school is top notch. If I lived in the west I’d definitely go there but I think it’s best that I exercise other options.
