So when I applied for MHC, I didn’t apply for financial aid because my family could have afforded the tuition fee at the time. But now my dad has been diagnosed with terminal illness, we lost income in the family and it is likely that he will pass away before I graduate.
I am an international student and I know that if I don’t declare my intention for FA before I applied, I won’t be able to apply it in the future.
Now I’m trying to pick the school that is most affordable for my family, so I was wondering if it would be easy to find a student job on campus in MHC?
I suggest to contact MHC
@annamom would the school take back the offer if they knew about it?
No, they’ve already accepted you, and schools generally only take back offers if they find out you did something like lying on your application or your grades plummet.
If you didn’t apply for financial aid but your circumstances have radically changed, that’s a good reason to contact the office of financial aid and explain the situation! Mt. Holyoke is mostly need blind - financial aid factors in to decisions only in very edge cases. I’m not familiar with their policy on international financial aid, but given the change in situation they might be willing to work with you. The worst they can say is no, and nothing will change if you don’t contact them.
Getting a job on campus is a good idea regardless, and while you do have to actively pursue opportunities it’s not particularly hard. But you probably aren’t going to make enough working on campus to make up for a whole lost income. Contacting Financial Aid is your best bet. I’m very sorry about your father, and I hope things can be worked out.
The Village Commons has many business, that is on the edge of campus, where you could get a job. They have a pretty good web site.
^^Can international students work outside of campus?
thank you :)!
i dont think international students can work outside of college? @Akqj10
There usually is plenty of jobs in Dining Services. Generally speaking, Firsties can only get jobs there. It is actually easy work for $11 an hour. For the most part you usually can only work 8-10 hours per week.
mibsprincess, since the new Super Blanch dinning hall open, there is a lot less hours for students to work in the dinning hall. My daughter who is a firstie, did get another job on campus to make up for her lost hours at the dinning hall, but this might be unique to her and this transition year. She still works a few hours 3 to 4 at the dinning hall and 4 hours at the other job.
As a current student with an on-campus job, it generally is easy to find some of the basic jobs on-campus and a little more competitive for the ones that would look more interesting on your resume.
