What kinda credentials would one need? How many do they take a year?

from CAS?
I heard it's almost impossible.

Im sorry maybe I didnt make myself clear.

I mean is it hard to transfer to Stern after a few years at a place like U of Maryland College Park: Smith? In order to have "Stern" on you diploma and for all the job ops!

I love our society.

yep. we're pretty much pathetic.

So no 1 knows?

i think it will be quite difficult to catch up....but it is possible

From CAS, if I were to take as many general courses required by Stern as possible in my first year, with a 2250 SAT, what do you think my chances would be?

You would need a very high NYU freshman/sophomore GPA from CAS to transfer into Stern. I'm guessing you would need around a 4.0 to do it.

Yeh, I wasn't going to respond to this thread because the original question just doesn't make sense but I might as well give my input...
how would it be easy to transfer to Stern if it isn't easy to get accepted into Stern as a freshman? As a transfer, there are an even more limited number of spots available, which makes it considerably more difficult than applying as a freshman.

That would make sense. How then, would job opportunities for the financial services industry be with a CAS economics-computer science degree, and a minor in pre-business, granted I manage to retaina 3.5 gpa

so, basically, you want to apply to CAS because it would be easier to get into, attempt to take classes that you'd need at stern anyway, and then try to transfer to stern sophomore year. am i correct thus far?

bulletproof, I was already accepted by CAS. At the time I applied, I thought I would be going as a physics major. I've been doing a lot of thinking about careers lately, and have decided that I want to shift my focus to business. Basically, if I choose to go to NYU, I'm trying to figure out the best options. At this point, I don't know if I should go for Econ/Pre-Business at CAS, or go through the tedious process of trying to transfer into Stern.

be careful of how you word that, if you decide to speak with an admissions counselor about that; you don't want it to come across as i described it.

fexfeminae - NYU's econ department is very strong, so you should definitely consider it. Transferring into Stern isn't impossible.. but internal transfer /is/ hard

SebmaFSX_53 - it's not easy, but definitely do-able. Other than keeping up your GPA.. make sure that you take as many of Stern's core requirements (ie. financial accounting) as possible, and make sure that these credits can transfer

There is a special academic advisor in Silver 9th Floor who specializes in internal transfer to Stern. I suggest you speak to him.

Yup! good luck. however, not going to stern isn't the end of the world. I know a lot of CAS friends that get great jobs in finance, though they do have to have better credentials than other sternies.
