Is it even possible to get into college now?

Right now I'm a junior in high school and I'm really worried that I won't be able to get into college because I messed up in the past with my grades since 9th grade. I didn't apply myself, because all I wanted to do was enlist into the military and defend my country. So in 9th and 10th my grades were only Bs and Cs. And because of that I'm afraid it's already too late for me and I won't be going to even a decent college now. I feel like I already waisted my life because of it. I never had and advanced class even though I really should be in them. I've only been in CP. So I feel like ill be getting rejected from every school I apply too, and also having to go to community college. Which is really bad around here. I also have to choose what my classes will be next year. I already have all my credits to graduate, if not, I'm really close and only need English next year. I don't know what other classes to take either. I don't want to do an easy senior year like many others. But I don't know If colleges will even look at them and care. Is there anyway I can get into college now without doing a year in community? Like if I were to recieve straight As till I graduate? Would that be enough? Or it it already too late? I was thinking of applying to West Chester University, or Penn States Berks campus. If I were to get As, would that be enough for me to get in? Please help me,

An upward trend is a big positive, not to mention that if your grades are too low for you to be accepted by any colleges, you can try attending a community college and demonstrating your best.

Schools like to see that you got better as you got older and would be happy to see you doing well this year and next year. They understand that some kids are immature and don’t think about college as underclassmen, and eventually wake up and realize they need to do better. Bs and Cs are not terrible! I don’t mean to sound mean, but yes you won’t be getting into any ivy leagues or most of the schools people talk about on this website, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get into a respectable 4 year college. Honestly, unless you have amazing essays and test scores, you probably won’t get into your top state school either, but that’s not the end of the world. I’m sure there are plenty of other state schools in your state that lots of people go to that you would get into. Look up the admissions websites of some colleges in your state and see if your gpa and test scores are close to the average entering freshmen for the college. If your really worried, ask your consoler what he/she thinks some good matches for you would be. I don’t suggest that you take on a full honors/AP schedule for next year though. I’m sure you’re capable of learning the material and doing well, but its a huge change from how regular classes are taught and how much work there is. So I think you should take like 2 honors classes or maybe 1 AP class in a subject you like. For the schools you mention, I don’t know anything about them so I can’t tell you, but PLEASE don’t feel like if you can’t get in there then you’re stuck at community college, because there are plenty of other state universities that accept applicants who may not have done their best in high school. For example, the state university in my town’s average applicants have 2.3 gpas, and 20 ACTs (1410 SATs). So you aren’t hopeless!

there are tens of thousands of colleges in America. I guarantee that you’ll get into at least one if you try, unless you’re a serial killer or something. just do your best. there’s no point lingering in the past, it’ll just hold you back. even if you do end up going to community college, then transferring, that is by no means something to be ashamed of. the only reason more people don’t do it is because it’s not prestigious. I know honors 4.0 GPA students who start out in CC, because it saves so much money

I got Bs and Cs my freshman year, did better first semester sophomore year (3.5 GPA), and have gotten around 4.0 ever since. My overall GPA is going to be around 3.74, but along with my SAT and ACT scores I am competitive for some really good schools. I’m guessing you are a second semester sophomore now, so you’re in my position. If you get all A’s from here on out, you will be all set.

Well not if you can’t spell ‘wasted’ or use apostrophes :D

It partly depends on what you consider a good college. I’m sure you can still get in somewhere that will give you a very decent education, but Ivies will be out of the question :)
