Is it even worth applying if I don't show interest?

Rice takes into account demonstrated interest but I haven't shown any interest whatsoever. I just recently learned about Rice and its academic programs but I haven't attended any of their outreach events or visited.

I could send in my app tonight so that I get it in by the Dec. 1 interview deadline but I'm afraid that my app isn't ready yet to submit.

Is it possible to get into a school like Rice with good academics and good essays but without much demonstrated interest/interview?

Thank you :)

Yes, I think it is. Someone I know applied three years ago, with no visit or interview, and got in with a $21,000/year merit scholarship offer. Times might have changed, though.

Yes. Demonstrated interest provides a boost to your application, but isn’t required. If your essays are well written and convey your uniqueness and desire to attend Rice, that can also help boost your chances. If you like Rice, definitely apply - demonstrated interest isn’t a dealbreaker.

Sorry if this improper protocol or stealing a thread (please inform me if it is), but what if you’ve requested an off-campus interview (I believe the date they were available was December 3rd) but you haven’t yet been notified of anything (and all application materials have been submitted)?

predent - not clear on your question. Do you mean would it count as interest or will you get an interview?

@Antarius I’d be interested about what you think about the interview for interest. On one hand it seems significant, on the other hand, it seems a lot easier to do last minute compared to a campus visit or a “Rice in your town”.

I don’t think just doing an interview helps that much in counting as demonstrated interest. The interview is a good opportunity to show how interested you are and how much you want to go to Rice. Definitely prepare questions that show your interest and are things you want to know about life on campus.

@Antarius‌ I’m wondering if I’ll be receiving an interview or not.

@predent - I would email them to check if you are concerned. There is still plenty of time to have them scheduled and conducted.

@Antarius‌ thanks!
