Plan on majoring in Computer Science.

Is it worth applying to Carnegie Mellon and Cornell.
I need to know because if it is I will take the physics subject test.

Always submit the application (as long as finances permit it). You never know if your essays will connect with someone on the Admissions Committee or if your ECs will touch someone. Good luck!

It is worth applying, but CMU’s School of Computer Science has somewhere around a 5% acceptance rate and Cornell is very competitive as well.

Given your low class rank (is your school high ranked?), and lower test scores, those 2 schools will be significant reaches.

My school is ranked 16th in Maryland and 435th nationally. This doesn’t seem that high, but then again I’m not sure what would be considered a high-level school (probably top 100)

I don’t think you should be worrying about the class rank thing given the rigor and competitiveness of your current hs. Make sure the people you’re getting your recs from know you well so you can stand out even more.
