is it even worth going to Stern if you intend upon going to law school and....

are not interested in getting one of these business jobs like a goldman sachs that are recruited at stern....

No - go to CAS.

Of course not. The only reasons you should attend Stern is if you like business or you intended to work in the business world or if some dire circumstance requires that you attend (like if somebody said, "If you don't attend Stern, I'll something bad")

I agree with FBI_34. Major in something you like and get a good GPA.

corporate law

so basically it's not worth going to if you just want to have a "business background" for future employers...and such a thing could be achieved in CAS anyway..?

Stern is prestigious, which is good for law school. I know someone who did NYU-stern then NYU-Law.

Im in stern and thinking about possibly law school. but probably not.

but i'm saying..what if i intend to go to law school but i want to have a some sort of a business background such that i will be a better applicant for future job applications..is cas economics good enough to fulfill that?

I'm beginning to think this dude is pure flame.

what is that supposed to mean..i'm just trying to decide if nyu is right for me and you guys are helping

Do you really think a finance/business related degree from Stern, assuming you're accepted, is worth refusing? Let's say you get nubOWNED in the ls admissions process, you still have an impressive Stern degree. And probably alot of contacts to help you land a job. Definitely worth it. Might be taking some desperate business majors' place, but who cares?

but if i don't get into stern (which i probably will not due to a lower than 1441 average stern sat) iw on't even be able to go to nyu cas which is a great school for me to go to in terms of internships location for my entertainment career that i really want..

NYU cas isn't great. What are your stats?

"Stern is prestigious, which is good for law school. I know someone who did NYU-stern then NYU-Law."

Stern is not going to help you get into law school. You need a very high GPA and high LSAT to get in, regardless of your school. Last year I believe, seven people from NYU CAS were accepted to Harvard Law. Bottom line: do you well academically and study for the LSAT.

Stern is only good for finance and international business, so if you want to major in either or those fields and do i-banking, go for it. I think I read a post of yours on another thread talking about consulting...speaking from first-hand experience, consulting companies do not like Stern kids, they only recruit from CAS.

"but i'm saying..what if i intend to go to law school but i want to have a some sort of a business background such that i will be a better applicant for future job applications..is cas economics good enough to fulfill that?"

Yes - I know quite a few CAS econ guys working for BB banks.

Judging from all you earlier idiotic posts, as well as this one, it seems that you like to hype Stern a lot. If you like it so much, you should transfer into it, like Daniel (Last2AsntsBanned). Although he kind of had to, because he was in Gallatin, which is indeed a worthless school.

"NYU cas isn't great. What are your stats?"

That's where you're wrong, suubie. NYU CAS has several departments ranked in the top 10.

Btw, you're not still working at that American Eagle clothing store, are you?

Keep in mind, I'm not from NYU CAS, but I used to be in Stern so I know several people from NYU and CAS. If you apply yourself, you'll do well.

thanks North Dakota..
by the way I do not want a career in ibanking BB or consulting nothing like that..i actually want to be an entertainment lawyer so law school is the path i'm going to be taking..

basically i ask because i have to decide which school in NYU to apply to since you can't do multiple schools at once..i chose nyu because of its film school for the minor in production and for its location in the 1st or 2nd major entertainment city in the country

with that said, i was only looking for a little business education while in undergrad to make me look more appealing in the future..

what are some departments in the top 10 in cas?

Nah, I really don't. I have my fair share of reservations regarding Stern, but you can't deny it's a great school that provides lots of opportunities for its students. And why the f**k would I, as a philosophy major, xfer to stern when I have no interest in the business world?

I posted something similar the CAS econ thread, but I'd thought I'd post it here as well...

sratman1011 - If you're planning on Stern getting you a job or getting into law school, then you're not going to get either. You have to apply yourself. A school is not going to get a job for you, you have to go out and get it yourself. Attend recruiting events, show interest and enthusiasm, and network. That's what I did, and I had an internship offer from both a top 5 consulting firm and a BB firm.

Stern is definitely a more marketable name than NYU CAS when applying for a business job (exception being consulting), but like I said, you have to apply yourself. I was chosen over several Stern students for the BB bank position.

If you want to do law, econ is excellent. It will develop your quant skills, which requires a lot of logic (as mathematics is all about process) and at the same time develop your analytical and writing skills, both very important for law and business.

I may be very biased, but I really believe econ is the best undergrad major in CAS, because it is a very versatile degree.

thanks guys

ya i was looking towards law but i really wanted to have some business related major which seems to be what i'll get from econ.
