Is it even worth it? Advice?

Alright, I'll try to make this short. My junior year is ending in a handful of days (Thank god, I need summer!). I'm very interested in University Of central florida. It's the only place I really see my self, the only place that will make me achieve what I wish to. I live in illinois, but was originally born in sarasota, florida. While there, my parents signed my twin brother and I (Who's also very interested in UCF) up for the pre-paid college program. Meaning, after conformation, that if we attend any public florida college/state college, tuition is covered. Frankly, I'd be an idiot not to attend school in florida, it's cheaper down there for school, too, compaired to up here in illinois (I need to get back to florida). Only one problem, which I've actually accepted. If I want to get into UCF, I would only have a chance at summer B, of 2012. My GPA and ACT is not high enough and competitive enough for fall. I really WANT to do summer. It seems like the best thing for me, and in my best interest. But, to be honest, it does seem difficult, especially being out of state. Drive down to florida (I've made the drive...it's brutual), do six weeks of college. Gather all my things back up from the dorm, pack it in the car, have my dad come pick me up AGAIN, drive back to illinois, and THEN drive back down come fall? I was considering just staying down for the rest of summer, but they wouldn't let me stay in a dorm, obviously, and I don't have the money to rent a place. But I really want to go to UCF, and do summer! That's the only downside, the transportation and exspences that come with it. Are their any out of state students who did summer? Any advice, how difficult was it? Any advice it great:)

You could fly down to UCF for the summer and fly back at the end of the six weeks. Bring the minimum, buy what you absolutely have to in Orlando, and rent a storage unit to hold your things between the end of summer and beginning of fall term.

But wouldn’t that be costly? Doing summer also means leaving my job up earlier, a lot earlier then I had planned. Meaning that I had originally intended to work the whole summer, to earn more money, but I wouldn’t even have that. My parents would never let me spend that much money on plane tickets, unless I was, for sure, going to get a job when I’m done their, which isn’t a ‘for sure’. It’s really a tricky situation…

I looked into this since I’m out of state, it’s not as expensive as I thought at all. 20$ to store for a month i believe I saw… well worth it.

It seems harsh that your parents would let the one-time cost of a plane ticket derail your plans for a good education and future.

Oh, that’s not bad at all!:D

My parents can be harsh. They’ve always believed in the whole ‘tough love’ idea, since I was young. I had my job at 14, and I pay for everything. Tolitries, car insurance, cell phone bill, clothes, gas, etc. The only thing I don’t pay for is food. If I want different food (maybe like healthier choices) then I need to buy it. It has made me VERY independent though. If they’re not willing to contribute for a round trip plane ticket (And maybe this is shallow to consider, but I might) I may ask my grandparents. They’ve contributed to both my older and sister, and twin brothers expenses when they went to disney world in high school (last year for my brother) and I’ve never asked for anything related to that…so maybe they’d be willing. We’ll see. If I get accepted, I’m going. Even if that mean hitch hiking. But how hard would it be getting my stuff on a plane? I’d have to limit my things drastically, right?

Yeah, you’d definitely have to limit your stuff, unless you’re willing to cross-country it with a Uhaul.

you can ship your stuff and fly there or drive

Thanks, both of those are good ideas! (The car ride, is reality, can be fun! When you’re surrounded by the right people, and taking portioned breaks. Otherwise, it’s really irritating, restless, and dull.) I’m going to have to try to find the cheapest road. I will also ask my parents, if I’m accepted to summer, if maybe they could make that my combined christmas and 18th birthday gift. A round trip ticket.
