Hey, I'm just wondering if it's even worth taking the Level 1 math subject test. I'm probably going to get a 2100 or above on my SATs with math being one of the stronger sections, but I looked at the SAT2 study books and there is a good deal of stuff that I don't know or really struggle with.

The Level 1 books I looked at were pretty simple and I think with a little bit of practice I could probably get a good grade on those too, but do you think it would be better to just skip it and get a not-as-good grade on a different one? I am afraid that taking the Level 1 test will just show colleges that I wasn't willing or smart enough to take Level 2, but I know if I take Level 2 I wouldn't get nearly as good of a grade.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

Bad curve + doesn’t look as good as Math II = not worth it

Anybody else got any views on this?

Agree with semaphore. Don’t bother with it.

I’m thinking of taking Math 1 in May/June, and also Bio-M at the same time. Would taking Math 1 be like a practice for Math 2 (that I’ll take after I take Pre-calc in Soph.) ? Or would it look good for admissions even if I get something around 700 in Math 1. BTW, I got 690 in SAT I in Math section in March.

Only do Math I if math has nothing to do with you major, even then, Math II is still better. Math I is also too different from Math II to be able to be considered practice.

Agree. Both test high school level math and they are both college admission tests. Math Level 1 tests Algebra I and II, Geometry and some Trigonometry but may not carry much weight in college.

Most important: SAT I Math > SAT II Math Level 2 > SAT II Math Level 1
Curve: SAT II Math Level 2 > SAT I Math ~ SAT II Math Level 1

Math 1 is totally fine if you’re not applying to a tech school.

@semaphore12: There’s a reason why there’s a Math 1 test. Yes, the curve is a lot worse than Math 2, but that’s because it’s easier.
